A bit of PD Master System Picross

It's an unfortunate and sad truth, but a truth nonetheless: the SMS homebrew community is far from vibrant. Or blooming. Or -of course- booming. And that's what makes the version of Picross pictured above all the more impressive. That and the fact that it's a brilliantly adapted for the Master System puzzle game complete with nice graphics and deeply addictive gameplay. You can download it from this place. For free obviously.

I wasn't even aware there was a Master System homebrew scene, given the number of systems that must be far easier to program for. I wonder if there is also a Saturn homebrew scene for people who really like a challenge ...

This looks a very accomplished piece of programming, with exactly the sort of bold, colourful graphics that I associate with the early-mid period of Master System gaming (before almost everything was a downscaled Genesis port ... not that all later games were bad by any means). Hopefully I shall get a chance to try this out soon, though I shall have to learn the rules for Picross first. It looks decidedly complex ...

Well, from what I 've seen to now the SMS homebrew scene is very indeed very small. Still, it exists and has already crafted some true freeware gems, so who am I to complain?

I'm pretty sure the Saturn still gets a lot of support and even the odd commercial release.

Oh, and Picross definitely isn't much more complicated than Sudoku. It's better too, mind.

Programming for the SMS is no harder than the NES, it's just less common.

The original page for the game is here:

Fair enough, though I must admit that NES programming does sound quite intimidating... Oh, and that was an excellent link indeed. Thanks!
